Marie-Louise Charron was long overdue some new hearing aids, since her old ones dated back to the early days of digital hearing aids.
Marie-Louise has had hearing aids for a long time, and is very dependent on them.
“I would not go a day without my hearing aids. They have given me the courage to be an active part of society. Many doors have opened and many opportunities have come since the first day I tried a pair of hearing aids,” she says. “It’s an incredible introduction to more sound!”
While Marie-Louise could see the advantage of upgrading her hearing aids, she saw the cost as a barrier. Thankfully, an award from the National Campaign for Better Hearing’s Give-back Programme made all the difference.
“Being a recipient of this award will make an overwhelming difference in my life in two ways,” says Marie-Louise. “First of all, it has eliminated the financial burden that would be needed to upgrade my current 12-year-old hearing aids. Secondly, with the newest hearing aid technology, a clearer understanding of the verbal world will greatly improve my social interactions.”
As someone who has lived with hearing loss for 30 years, Marie Louise understands just how important it is to get your hearing tested, and she has a few good words of advice for us all:
“If you’re not sure that you have a hearing problem, just get your hearing tested. It may be a whole new world for you too!”
